No Power for the Weekend!!!

Wow....so this weekend was very unexpected. Since David and I had no plans for the weekend I thought it would be nice to just have a relaxing weekend doing whatever we wanted when we wanted...or to do nothing at all ... but mother nature had other plans.

So there was no warning for this storm that blew in on Friday night. They said they expected a t-storm Friday night ... most people didn't hear anything about a storm that night and if you did you thought 'Oh just a regular t-storm with rain...big deal', right? Well we were at Sunny and Diana's watching a scary movie "the woman in black" and during the movie the storm started. I don't remember hearing wind or rain...I remember the lightning....it was intense...it was flashing constantly for 20 ish minutes. David said it's caused from the high heat...so it's a heat storm with more emphasis on lighting then thunder...there was hardly any thunder by the way. We leave Sunny and Diana's and as we drive back we see so many leaves and branches scattered around. We notice as we get closer to home that a few traffic lights are completely out...and then we reach our neighborhood and the whole place is dark...no street lights no house lights...completely dark everywhere. Grreeaaaaat.

Next day we expect the power be back on. It does not come back on all day and it is freaking hot outside!!! Most places were closed such as restaurants and convenient stores because they lost power. David and I had made plans to get breakfast at IHOP but they were closed. So we drove around forever trying to find anything that was open but this was at 8 am...most places wouldn't open until 11 am or 12 if they opened at all. Annd there were so many people driving around....probably because they had no power and couldn't stand to be in their own homes because they had no AC so it was literally the end of the world!! So you know what we did all day?

Look at the picture. They're movie tickets....not just any movie tickets. All tickets are from the same day, Saturday June 30th.

Yep, David and I had a triple feature movie day :) The theaters were one of the few places that was open and had power and AC, score for us :) Btw, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was Awesome!!!! Go see it!!! In fact go see all the movies we already saw because they were great :)

Between going to the movies we also got dinner at Ted's Montana Grill which is a really delicious restaurant in Hoffman town center in Alexandria. Try it!

Strawberry margarita for me and Mountain Breeze vodka drink for David.
Who didn't need alcohol after a day like Saturday?

The food was so delicious! I got this roast chicken with mashed potatoes...melts in your mouth just how I like it :)

That night we met up with Sunny and Diana at the Continental Lounge in Rosslyn where Eunyoung and Gilbert were having their reception for their friends who were in town. It was really nice and enjoyable and of course...more alcohol yaaaaaaay!!! I told Diana we had no power at our house and with no AC it was unbearable to stay in for more then 15 minutes so they invited us to stay over the night at their house. So we did and we brought Achilles with us. That was very nice of them :)

Sunday morning the power was still out so I stayed at Sunny and Diana's all day and my phone was still going in and out of service every second. You wouldn't know it unless you went on the internet or found someplace that had internet or a tv that showed just how much damage this storm caused all over the area. Power lines being knocked down...trees struck by lightning, completely falling over, uprooting and branches breaking off and falling on people and cars and the main roads. It was like a tornado blew through ... more like a lightning tornado ... it was so insane!! I feel bad for those who have to go all week without power and sitting in this heat...ugh I know how awful that is and I hope they all find refuge somewhere with a family/friend/neighbor because no power in this heat is rough!

Sunday afternoon, Cookie sleeping under the table in a little ball :) so cute!

We stayed over at Diana and Sunny's Sunday night as well....Anya stayed over too :) We took all the dogs on a nice long walk. It was Achilles, Abby, Sasha and Cookie! Dogs on Parade as Sunny says. It was a nice evening! Next morning I get a text from Lejia that the power was back on!! Woooot, finally!

We left Achilles at Sunny and Diana's all Monday and picked him up after work...what a happy boy :) Thanks you two for watching him :) :)

Whew....what a weekend. Annnnd now I am tired and need of a weekend from my weekend!! It was so nice to be home back in my own bed with the AC blasting. We take for granted how nice we have it and how much we rely on power and technology to get us through the day. But I am thankful to have family and friends there with me to go through it with them :)
